From stage to screen, since 1977 Martin Short has been making audiences laugh. Now experience Short's dynamic and spirited brand of humor and entertainment live and in-person in Silver Legacy's Grande Exposition Hall on Friday, August 27 at 9 p.m. or Saturday August 28 at 8 p.m.
Over the years, Short has appeared in such films as Inner Space, Three Fugitives, Mars Attacks and Captain Ron, with perhaps his most memorable role being the scene-stealing Franck Eggelhoffer, the wedding planner in Father Of The Bride and Father Of The Bride II.
Also a veteran of the stage in both the United States and Canada, in 1999 Short received a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his work in the Neil Simon/Colemon Broadway production of Little Me. He also starred in Lawrence Kasdan's Four Dogs and a Bone and recently performed with Jason Alexander in Mel Brooks' The Producers.
Ever expanding his talent, Short also wrote, produced and starred in three television comedy specials. For Martin Short's Concert for the North Americas and I Martin Short, Goes To Hollywood, he received Cable Ace Awards and for the NBC program The Show Formerly Known As The Martin Short Show, he won an Emmy. Additionally, in the fall of 1999, his one-hour talk/variety program The Martin Short Show, hauled in seven Emmy nominations. Currently he stars as Jimmy Glick in Primetime Glick on Comedy Central.
Not long after obtaining his degree in social work from McMaster University in 1972, Short opted away from his field of study and went to work performing in Canada. Following a Toronto production of Godspell, Short teamed with McMaster buddies Eugene Levy (American Pie) and Dave Thomas (Strange Brew) to join the Edmonton, Alberta chapter of the Second City Improv Troupe in 1977.
Making the jump from Second City stage to SCTV - Second City's television group - Short became recognizable enough to garner a call from NBC and Saturday Night Live. He was an instant success on SNL and after just one season of impressions of such characters as Ed Grimley, Jackie Rogers, Jr. and songwriter Irving Cohen, Short's undeniable hilarity earned him a big-screen debut alongside former SNL mates Chevy Chase and Steve Martin as Ned Nederlander in Three Amigos.
Short's incredible career has been recognized by critics and the public alike. In 1994 he received the Order of Canada - the Canadian equivalent to British knighthood - for his contribution to Canadian culture and was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2000.
