The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has chosen downtown Reno as the site for Round 5 of the AMA Supermoto Championship race on Saturday, October 2. Supermoto is an exciting hybrid of motorcycle racing disciplines combining the high-flying aerobatics of Supercross, the knee scraping lean angles of Road Racing and the broad sliding of Flat Track, condensing them into one of the most thrilling shows on two wheels. Riders race on converted Motocross bikes running road racing slicks with speeds approaching 100 miles per hour!

The Reno Supermoto Classic to be held Saturday, October 2, is the latest in a series of remarkable events presented by Downtown Reno - Circus Circus Reno, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Harrah's Reno Casino and Hotel and Silver Legacy Resort Casino. Supermoto is unique in all of racing, utilizing a man-made track blending on and off road elements. The track through downtown Reno will include a combination of long high-speed pavement straight-aways and corners, dirt sections and jumps of both dirt and steel.

Supermoto racing is an awesome spectator experience. The creative locations and unusual tracks allow for extraordinary spectator vantage points and showcase the best overall riders from around the

world. Expect to see extreme jumps in the Reno Supermoto Classic, including a 77-foot urban cross-style jump, giving riders the opportunity to show-off for the crowd. “You’ll see guys flying through the air. It’s pretty cool,” exclaimed Cameron Gray, vice president for Race Promotion Management.

The prospect of racing under the bright lights of Reno in the inventive downtown setting has attracted the stars of the AMA Supermoto circuit. “We’ve got some pretty heavy hitters from road racing, flat track, freestyle and motocross,” Gray said. “You’ve got a mix of a lot of top stars, some old, some young, the best of all styles.” Riders scheduled to date include Supercross and Motocross champion and AMA Pro Athlete of the Year Doug Henry; X Games and Gravity Games Freestyle Gold Medalist Travis Pastrana; Supercross and Motocross Champion and winner of numerous Supermoto events Jeff Ward; Champion Mike Metzger and Supermoto super-star Troy Lee.

The Reno Supermoto Classic is a free event with various heats and races running throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A $10 Paddock Pass will be available at the paddock entrance during the event granting even greater access to the pit, bikes and riders.

In a unique collaboration called Downtown Reno, Circus Circus Reno, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Harrah's Reno Casino and Hotel and Silver Legacy Resort Casino are working together to bring an unparalleled lineup of concerts, events and gaming promotions to Reno. With a common goal of positioning downtown Reno as the center of tourism in northern Nevada, the group is pleased to build on the success of recent concerts and events including performances by Michael Bolton, Jewel, LeAnn Rimes and Melissa Etheridge, live boxing events with ESPN2 and Showtime and the thrilling $1 Million Stay, Play & Win promotion.
