Although you may have to commit half a day to doing it, driving around Lake Tahoe is one of the most unforgettable experiences a person can have (in a car, at least).
The 72 miles of shoreline are rimmed by highways 28 and 50, and the drive takes about two hours without stops.
Of course, you'll want to stop at Tahoe City to see the trout mill about in the water beneath Fanny Bridge. Then, you'll want to drive along Lakeshore Blvd. in Incline Village to see where the rich and famous call home when they're not moving and shaking. And don't forget about dropping a few nickels into the slots at Caesar's on South Shore or hitting the outlet stores at the "Y."
Oh, and then there's the tranquil majesty of Emerald Bay...
You know what? Better make it an entire day. You won't regret it...unless the camera's not charged up.
