Kickoff of the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program, which was scheduled for Jan. 20, was again postponed due to lack of an important commodity: snow.
The program was to begin Jan. 6, but has been delayed by continued dry weather.
Program director Jim Murphy wasn't immediately available for comment Monday. Recorded messages in his office and at the Sky Tavern Lodge on Mount Rose said sessions planned for both Saturday and Sunday were "no go for lack of snow."
The program's Web site, www.stjsp.org, reassured young skiers that "we will open just a little late this year as we are waiting on Mother Nature to cooperate. Don't worry. This is actually normal. Historically, we have opened late more often then we have opened on time."
Spots are still available in the program, which costs $100 per child for eight two-hour sessions held on consecutive Saturdays or Sundays, if weather permits.
Equipment rental and transportation are extra, but Sky Tavern operates a bus service from six Truckee Meadows locations for children age 9 and older.
Details and updates on the schedule are available from the junior ski program, 323-5125, Sky Tavern, 849-0807, or at www.stjsp.org
